Bentonite Clay Seasonal Hair Detox
I love preparing my hair for the new season by doing a hair treatment and deep cleansing with Bentonite clay. I am however, a lover of natural ingredients and some recipes just SPEAK to me on a deeper level. This was one of them and it was because of each ingredient having stellar compositions that are wonderful for our hair. I already mentioned the benefits of the healing clay, bentonite clay, but here’s the other ingredients and what they offer to hair.
- 1/2 cup Bentonite Clay (you may need a tad more as I wanted more of a paste consistency)
- 3 tbsp. Apple Cider Vinegar
- 3 tbsp. Distilled Water
- 3 tbsp. Unrefined Coconut OIl
- 1 Spray Bottle
- 1 Glass bowl
Scoop the Bentontie clay into a glass bowl before adding the ACV. (you will notice a chemical reaction occur which is normal and just some minor sizzling. Stir a little before adding your distilled water and then the coconut oil. (You can melt the Coconut oil in the microwave or in a cup of hot water since it will not lose it’s effectiveness.) Mix well to create a watery paste and make it easier to apply to your hair. You want to ensure all the clay is properly mixed but you will still most likely end up with some lumps.
Section hair into four (or more) sections. Use spray bottle to dampen hair (not saturate) before applying mixture to your hair. I make sure to part each section into smaller parts to apply mixture evenly from root to tips. once a section is properly covered twist into a bantu knot and secure before going to the next section to repeat the process.
My hair isn’t very thick so I had a little Bentonite clay left over after my whole head was finished so I just applied the rest to the top to ensure every inch was covered. Next, top hair with a plastic cap and leave on for an hour. The heat from your head is all the heat you need. I took this time to clean up as you can see I made a serious mess on me and the bathroom!
