Eco Style Professional Olive Styling Gel – My Review

Eco Style Professional Olive Styling Gel is a must in every natura's hair care arsenal. Still a winner after all these years!

I decided to revamp this post because it was time.  This old-faithful is getting new life as many newly naturals are trying it out and loving it.  The Eco Style Professional Olive Styling Gel can be found everywhere and while some veteran naturals have moved onto new products, this still stays in my bathroom for good reason.

How To Choose The Right Hairstyle For Your Face Shape

When I first heard about it, so many Naturals RAVING about this stuff that I was in need to try it myself.  I’ve heard some say they use it daily like I use my Kinky Curly Curly Custard so that really got me curious.  It was cheap too so that was a plus when I picked it up a few months ago.

  • No flaking, no tack and anti-itch
  • Contains 100% pure olive oil
  • Safe for all hair types
  • Alcohol-free

Eco Style Professional Styling Gel with Olive Oil

Eco Style Professional Styling Gel with Olive Oil is made with 100% pure olive oil. Olive oil helps your scalp naturally regulate its own moisturizing system. Olive oil helps attract moisture to your scalp and holds it in. Like all Ecoco styling gels, it is weightless and will leave your hair with a healthy shine and has a superior hold. Target

I was using let’s Jam gel for so long before I realized it wasn’t good for my hair so when I came across this I was excited and pleased.  It’s light, doesn’t flake and clear.  I like that about it as well as it glides through my hair with no problem.  There is a very, very light scent that is pleasant and the jar is HUGE!  You get your money’s worth that is for sure.

The first five ingredients:

Carbomer / white, fluffy powders but are frequently used as gels

Trimethanolamine / alkaline substance used as surfactant and pH adjusting

Olea Europea (Olive) Fruit Oil

Hydrogenated Wheat Protein / basically a strengthening hydrator

*         Poor rating.  Will not be buying again ever!!
**       Mediocre.  Will not be buying again.
***     Average.  May or may not buy again.
****   Above average.  Will probably buy again.
***** Excellent!  Will buy again and may become a staple product.

Eco Style Olive Oil Styling Gel  ****

Gotta follow the crowd and love this stuff!  It’s great on my hair and no flaking what so ever!  My curls are shiny and distinct and my hair doesn’t feel weighed down at all.  It holds very similarly to KCCC, but I must add the reason it won’t replace it is because of the protein.  I can’t be putting this stuff in my hair everyday like KCCC.

Reading ingredients is key and seeing some Naturals complain about brittle hair made me look at the ingredients a little deeper and see that there was protein in it.  So you know what that means….I use it sparingly.  I try not to use it more than once a week so that big bottle lasts a really long time. : Eco Style Ecoco Gel - Black Castor Flaxseed Oil - Long Lasting Shine - Nourishes And Repairs Damaged Hair - Promotes Healthy Scalp - Provides Superior And Weightless Hold -

If you want to use it daily then I would suggest the ECO STYLE Professional Styling Gel Black Castor & Flaxseed Oil which does not have the protein within the first 5 ingredients.

This is a keeper and a good buy if you want to give it a try.  I do use it sparingly but it makes my hair lovely when I started the Curly Girl Method and it is truly a staple product for me back then and now.  I use it even more when I travel to humid climates too.

Take care Naturals,

I love this stuff, it is my go to product when all else fails. I can slick my edges back and get a nice, polished look when needed. I use this for my wash and goes as well and it never lets me down. I'm sorry you had to go so far to grab a bottle, I see them everywhere in MD!

At least I know where I can get it now!! I heard they are on sale today at Sally's so I'll be heading out and getting another one since I'm almost out.

Anything with 100% of something one is very difficult to find, and second should cost more than 2.00. Pure olive oil to say the least.

I agree! Can't use to often cause of the protein, but when I want that slicked back look it's the best.

I like it but I try to not use it too much because of the protein.

    • January 3, 2013 / 4:30 am

I'm kinda wondering if they have other types with no protein. I'll check it out.

Should I put this on top of my EVOO?

    • January 3, 2013 / 4:30 am

It really depends on you but I would put it on after the EVOO. Hope that works.

If it flaked up there is a possibility too much was used. Not to say that you did use too much but consider it. It should be used sparingly along with other products. It says no alcohol and it is made with olive oil but it is still a gel which means it has "drying" properties, which is what gives it the ability to "hold". I too think it should be the last product used in a regimen.

I purchased for my short natural and use it along with Miss Jessie's Curly Pudding. I don't use very much but I must say that I love it and will definately purchase more.

It is great but just be careful since it has protein in it. Too much protein can make your hair brittle. I'd love to see pics of your TWA with the mixture you mentioned.

Although I do use this to lay my edges sometimes I've never used it for a WnG. I plan to do it this weekend.

I'd love to know how it went. I use it sparingly but I gotta say it is wonderful. Thanks for sharing.

I use it only once a week and haven't had any brittle hair but will try KCCC again to see the difference. Used it first when I had a TWA, now have shoulder length curls
