Rocking gray hair or silver hair has become a growing trend among Millennials but, luckily, there are those of us who don’t have to rely on bleaches or dyes to get our wonderfully silver locks. While gray hair is undoubtedly beautiful in its own way, there is one characteristic that most of us can do without is the dreaded yellowing.
How To Make Your Hair Color Last Longer
The yellow tinge that you see in the gray hairs of some elders can be due to diet, medicinal, or health related reasons, but the hair can also become yellow from product residue. While some people don’t mind the yellow-ish tinge, some of us want to flaunt our silver hair without interruption. With that being said, here’s how you can remove the yellow from your gray hair…
Locate the Source of the Problem with your gray hair
Yellowing hair can be caused by a number of different things, so you really need to evaluate everything you eat, every medicine you take and every product that you use in order to narrow down what’s causing it. If you eat a lot of carrots or other foods that contain high levels of carotene, wash your hair with water that is high in iron, or swim in a heavily chlorinated pool, you can do simple things that can possibly reverse the yellowing of your hair.

Blue or Purple Dye To Revive Silver Hair
If you’ve ever noticed that some people have hints of blue among their grays, it’s for a good reason. Blues and purples neutralize their opposites-oranges and yellows. When applied to the hair, the contrast causes the yellow to become masked as if it were never there to begin with. The trick to this method is to make sure you don’t over-do it with the blue/purple dye, unless you’re going for that bluish gray look.
Vinegar Rinse for gray hair
Vinegar is a safe alternative for those who aren’t too comfortable with dying their hair. Just make a rinse, 1 tbsp vinegar/ 1 gal water and rinse the hair after washing. Rinse the hair thoroughly with regular water in order to remove the vinegar from the hair and follow up with a conditioner that doesn’t turn the hair yellow.
