Summer is here! As I reluctantly bear the unbearable heat outside, I can feel my curls tightening up from the humidity but they are holding strong against frizz. My secret? Using a great leave in conditioner and knowing that some of the best ways to have and keep beautiful hair this summer is keeping the best leave in conditioner on deck all summer long.
How To Increase Hair Growth & Have Beautiful, Healthy Hair!
Summer is all about being carefree and one of the best ways to keep your hair on that path is by using a great leave in that’s not too heavy to weight down your curls but not too light that does nothing for curl definition or fighting frizz. We’ve got the top leave in conditioners that naturals love and while some may be familiar, quite a few on new to you and me. What I love most about this list is that every one is black owned and top notch! First, let’s see what a leave in conditioner is and why our natural strands need them.
What is a Leave In conditioner?
Leave in conditioners are light, water-based conditioners that have been specially formulated to allow frequent use. Rinse-out and deep conditioners contain ingredients that are designed to bind to the hair after rinsing. This can lead to product build-up if regular conditioners are used often and without rinsing.
Leave in conditioners don’t require rinsing and can be used daily without excessive build-up. Many leave in conditioners contain humectants, which draw water into the hair. This makes them perfect for moisturizing and preventing dryness.
Why do we need a leave in conditioner?
Because the leave in serves a real purpose. This lightweight product acts as a protective barrier around our hair shaft for when it is being manipulated during the styling process, affected due to the environmental conditions and rubbing against our cotton clothes.
In addition, it adds a bit of moisture for the days after styling. Ladies, please don’t even consider just using leave in conditioners (instead of the rinse out) because it’s simply isn’t moisturizing enough as they are have a higher water content, lighter than a rinse out are will not work longer than a day or so. They can be used daily because they are lighter and they make for better daily styling.

I have a question about using a leave in conditioner. Should I use the leave in and follow with a curl defining product? Or does a leave in conditioner define and hold curls with no other product?

honestly, you might try with both and see which works better. I need a styler after a leave in but my sister and daughter don’t.
