Happy New Year Lovelies! Been sort of MIA as I’ve been enjoying my family and and the holidays. It’s been super hard on my diet (keep gaining and losing the same damn 2 pounds), but now it’s back to work on hair, beauty and skincare. I knew you all would be super excited to work on the new decade the right way when it comes to your natural hair and that first starts with the top hair goal for 2020. What are they for most natuarls? Do you have some major goals to work on or are you stumped on what to focus on?
Best Hair Growth Practices & 5 Bad Habits You Need To Break!
I’ve headed over to the forums and kept my hear to the ground to find out what most natuarls are looking for or stating as their hair goals for the new year and some are even concerned about the new decade for their hair. If you need some focus or guidance on what to do, check out the top hair goals for 2020 I’ve found.
Length Retention, tops Hair Goal for 2020
Length retention was #1 hair goal for most women whether natural or relaxed for 2020. No surprise there but I am VERY excited to see that most women are realizing that hair growth is pretty consistent but retaining length is the real work when it comes to having long hair. While many women are big into styles and even considering a Big Chop, the top winner on the list of hair goals this year is getting longer strands and keeping them that way.
There were still many who were eager to start the process over by doing a BC and starting the decade fresh. There are still others who are quite happy with short strand like our favorite vlogger, MahoganyCurls. She’s cut her hair short and loving it! When she wants length, she rocks a cute wig and keeps it moving.
Anther big hair goal is taking better care of our hair
Too often, we are so busy with our lives, we forget the basics when it comes to our bodies. That includes our hair, and many women have decided they are upping their self-care in the hair department as a big hair goal for 2020. Just all around better care seems to be the focus and that’s a wonderful goal for your body overall. Better care for your hair means better care for your overall health. Yes, they work together.
I have seen over the years that as more women are going natural, they are taking not just learning about healthy hair practices, but realizing that living a healthier lifestyle goes hand in hand with your hair. This is a great hair goal for the year and the decade ahead. From eating better, to exercising to living a stress-free life; taking better care of your natural hair requires a better life for yourself on all fronts. Love to see it!
Thicker hair
This was a very big natural hair concern for many in all the forums. Everyone is striving for thicker hair. It’s a big wish that far too many are trying to to obtain and honestly, I don’t write much about it. I’m going to take this opportunity to do some research and discuss so expect some posts this spring. Now, while the top goal may be longer tresses, some are opting for fullness or volume. I have to add that everyone I saw touting this as a focus also mentioned healthier hair too so they are definitely looking for all that volume from their own hair and not weaves or wigs.
Consistency on detangling, washing, etc.
Another big focus on the forums had to do with consistency. Everyone is making sure they stay consistent throughout the year when it comes to everything. From washing to detanlging, no one wants to stay back in 2019 with bad habits that create big problems for one’s hair care. Whether you skipped those deep conditionings or waited way too long to detangle, a lot of naturals are trying to stay more in line with a healthier timeline that allows for better maintenance and less headaches in the haircare department.
We all get lazy from time to time but making your haircare regimen work smoothly means staying on top of what needs to be done. Whether you opt for a reminder on your phone or prefer a hair planner, keep your natural hair routines on a schedule to ensure you are doing what’s best for your and your hair.
Buying Black Owned Brands
I was very happy to see that many naturals are opting for buying black owned brands as a big goal for this year. With the natural hair explosion that has taken over hair care, it only makes sense that black women are partaking in the entrepreneurial spirit of creating hair products and tools that allow for better hair maintenance. Brands like Jane Carter Solution, EDEN BodyWorks, Alikay Naturals, or Kinky Curly are just a few of the massive brands that have been created by black people for our natural tresses. It takes little to no effort at all to find these amazing brands and the lines they have created within, to accommodate every hair texture.
While there are more hair goals out there, these are the biggest ones that you see over and over again. I love the list as I feel each one is a great hair goal to focus on for the next year and decade. I’m focusing on not chopping in my head anymore and buying more black owned brands. My goal is to ONLY have black owned brands in my haircare arsenal from now one and want to follow suit for my skincare too.
