Winter Beauty Secrets For Dry Skin From Head To Toe!

Winter Beauty Secrets For Dry Skin From Head To Toe! We've got some of the cheapest, easiest and most effective DIY recipes to combat dry skin this winter.

Baby, it’s cold outside!  It’s cold outside and warm inside but both conditions are making our giving us really bad dry skin. What’s a girlie to do to try and stay soft and supple? Well, you can buy the hundred if not thousands of brands out there that claim to give you softer more supple skin but best believe, you are going to pay for it! No, I don’t mean just a little…I mean A LOT. One example is body scrub. Honestly…since many body scrubs can be DIY, I find some of the prices ridiculous and a waste of money.

Spring Skin Care Routine, What I’m Using & Loving!

Somehow we have to survive this winter and if we ONLY worry about our hair most of us will look like scaly lizards come March and I’m not OK with that.  We’ve got to worry about our faces, elbows and hands and we can do that without spending a ton of money or spending a ton of time. Check out a few simple DIY recipes for fixing dry skin that will give your body life and have you soft and supple well into spring!

Simple & Cheap DIY Hand Scrub

Dry hands are the worst and since we use our hands all the time, we need to be nicer to them. Tired of spending a lot of money for hand creams that don’t work? Me to so that’s why I love this easy trick. Simple, cheap and effective…these two items can give you’re hands and elbows the softest skin you’ve had in years. Most of us already have these items in the house so no need to go anywhere other than your kitchen for this.

Pour 1-2 tablespoons of sugar in your hand
Pour about the same amount of olive oil in the same hand

Stand over your kitchen sink and mix them together in the palms of your hands. After mixed, rub the scrub all over your hands including the backs.  Hit your cuticles, your callouses (if you have any) and don’t forget to hit those elbows too.  Rinse well (don’t forget the elbows) and stare in amazement at the soft supple hands and elbows you are left with. You can even take this into the shower for an all over body scrub so keep that in mind.

Moisturizing Hair Masks

Whether you are natural or relaxed, your hair could use a boost of moisture this winter with ultra-moisturizing hair mask sure to protect your tresses from dryness.  Your scalp is skin also and can also suffer from dry skin so don’t neglect it! You can spend the extra money for an OTC option, but these two hair masks are just as good (if not better) so save those dollars for something else.

Moisturizing Coconut Hair Mask
2-4 tbsp. coconut oil
5-10 drops of your favorite essential oil or blend of essential oils
Plastic or thermal heat cap

Mix coconut oil and essential oil (or blend) together in small bowl. Massage into your hair and it it not necessary to apply to scalp but it won’t hurt! Cover with plastic cap or thermal cap for 30-60 minutes. Wash out and style as usual.

Honey + Coconut Hair Mask
1/4 cup coconut oil
1 tsp. of honey
Plastic or thermal heat cap
small microwavable bowl

In a small microwave safe bowl, mix coconut oil and honey. Microwave for 30-45 seconds, until coconut oil is liquid and mixture is warm. Stir again as the coconut and honey will separate from the heat.  Massage oil mixture into hair, starting at the ends and working up towards the scalp. After hair is evenly coated, secure hair with a clip or hair tie and cover with plastic cap or thermal cap for 15 to 30 minutes. Wash and style as usual.

Knees & Elbows 3-Part System

As we age, these special spots tend to get rough, darker and dry. We can easily rejuvenate them by using a three step method that will aid in getting them softer and smoother even during winter.

Exfoliate – that same body or lip scrub you use for dry skin works excellently for your knees and elbows. Make sure to be delicate with your elbows as not as much elbow grease needs to be used to get that dead layer of skin off.  Sugar or salt works well.

Oil massage – Yes, this next step is vital to help moisturize that new skin as soon as you exfoliate. Olive, almond and coconut are excellent choices.

Moisturize regularly – Hit them with a butter or thick lotion daily and even twice a day if you can. This keeps them well moisturized throughout winter and will keep you softer well into spring!

Almost Too Good To Be True Listerine Foot Soak

Now if you live on Pinterest like I do, then you’ve heard about this wonder foot soak that literally slouches the dead skin off of your feet.  You need a few household items and a basin.  It’s too easy, too cheap, and it does work! I’ve tried it myself so you must give this dry skin remedy for your feet a try!

Mix 1/4 cup Listerine (any flavor)
1/4 cup vinegar and
1/2 cup of warm water

Soak feet for 10 minutes and using a pumice stone watch the dead skin slouch off quite easily and quickly.  Now, you’ll notice it’s such a small amount and it won’t cover your feet so I double or triple the amount.  I also added the pumice stone because some versions of this say it just comes off by itself but that didn’t happen for me.  When I hit it with that pumice stone it worked well and if you want to increase the effects, consider using Gel Spa Socks For Repairing and Softening Dry Cracked Feet to further combat the dry skin this winter.

I’m not against anybody creating a product and making a living but there’s also nothing wrong with making your own products and keeping a few dollars in your pocket.  It’s cold out and it’s dry inside so crank up the heat and pull out the humidifiers to keep some moisture in the air.  Use these tips to keep your hands, elbows and feet soft while we brave the elements.

Stay warm and soft this winter Naturals,
Sabrina
