There are five main body shapes or body types that women can find themselves falling into for their bodies. That’s not to say we all fit neatly into a particular one. I actually fall between being a pear and an hourglass and I’m sure many other women fall somewhere between two shapes as well. Sometimes it’s a particular outfit that can make you look one shape or the other but standing in your underwear or naked can give a more accurate depiction of your actual body shape.

Height and weight are not really the determining factor. SHAPE is what you need to look for. I’ve seen many overweight women who sported a mean hourglass shape as well as a skinny woman. There are also so many celebrities who are classified by one shape or another dependent upon the style of an outfit or the person writing the article.
Apple Body Shape / Body Type
Apple body shapes have wide upper bodies starting from the shoulders tapering down to the hips and thighs. You are larger around the middle, yet still have slim legs. Your waist may not be defined but you can fake it with the right outfit.

Your bust and hips are well balanced and you have a smaller well-defined waist. You have rounded shoulders that align well with your hips and your waist is obvious and curves out to your hips. More than likely you have a nice butt and your upper body is proportionate in length to your legs that are shapely.
Hourglass Body Shape / Body Type
An hourglass body shape has proportional width of the upper and lower body which sets off your tiny waist. You carry your weight equally between your bust and your hips and rump. Your bust and hips are well balanced and you have a smaller well-defined waist.

You have rounded shoulders that align well with your hips and your waist is obvious and curves out to your hips. More than likely you have a nice butt and your upper body is proportionate in length to your legs that are shapely.
Pear Body Shape
Pear body shapes have hips wider than your shoulders and you have a smaller bust. Your rump is rounded and your waist is well-defined. Pears and Hourglass shapes seem to overlap and many celebrities have been said to be one or the other dependent upon the photo and outfit.

A pear shape is not too far off from the hourglass. The pear shaped women has a smaller bust with narrower shoulders. She will have a flat stomach with bigger thighs, legs, or/and rear and yes that waist is well-defined. Some pears try to concentrate on camouflaging their rear but accentuating your smaller top half is just as important (if not more important) to give your body some balance.
Rectangle Body Shape / Body Type
Rectangle body shapes have almost the same width throughout their bust, waist and hips. There’s a somewhat straight appearance they often have an athletic, boxy or boyish figure.
The rectangle body shape has a athletic build with very little waist definition. Rectangle body shapes have almost the same width throughout their bust, waist and hips. There are usually little to no curves but you do have slender arms and legs.
Wedge (Inverted Triangle)Body Shape / Body Type
A wedge or inverted triangle body shape has a fuller top half in comparison to the bottom half. We typically see narrow hips and a flatter rump. Your best assets are your legs and the goal is to balance your upper and lower body.
You have a proportionally larger upper body
You have broad shoulders, and ample bust and a wide back
Your hips are slim and your bottom may have a tendency towards the flat side
Your waist is subtle and you have a tendency to gain weight in your belly and upper body
Your beautiful, shapely legs are your best asset
