NO MORE 24 | How Local Action Can Make Big Changes In Our Communities

NO MORE 24 | How Local Action Can Make Big Changes In Our Communities

With the majority of our country focused in on national politics, local and state level concerns are being overshadowed. Here in Colorado, there’s a lot going on and not in a good way as of late on childhood obesity.

Coloradans are known for our active lifestyle and access to natural beauty but we are failing our kids in passing the desire to stay physically fit onto them. Despite how healthy the adults in Colorado are with all the hiking, skiing, camping and running; our children are coming up short. Colorado ranks 24th in the country for kids physical activity and back in September, I shared with you how devastating this is and why we need to change it.

I have to say, many were unbelievably surprised by these facts and wanted to know more. See, we want our kids to succeed and that includes in being healthy and wiping out childhood obesity. The No More 24 campaign aims to increase Coloradan’s awareness of the issue of childhood obesity and the problems some kids face like not every neighborhood has the same resources when it comes to access to safe parks, or even grocery stores with fresh produce and quality meats.

NO MORE 24 | How Local Action Can Make Big Changes In Our Communities

I have two kids who need access to all of safer and better parks and grocery stores with fresh produce but so do all the children in Colorado and not just in affluent neighborhoods. While the childhood obesity statistics in our state are grim, the community is stepping up to ensure these stats change for the better. Something as simple as talking to your mayor, calling your senator or discussing with a teacher on ways to implement physical activity in schools or implementing healthier school lunches can make a significant and positive change.

Change starts on the local level, and something as easy as signing a pledge to do more for your community is right at your fingertips. There has been already over 22,401 Coloradans signed up for the NoMore24.org campaign and yes, I’ve already made this pledge. Now, we need you to step up and help out with wiping out childhood obesity and ensuring a better and healthier lifestyle for all children in Colorado.

I want a better Colorado for my children and it takes all of us for to happen. Join me in signing the pledge to end childhood obesity at NoMore24.org

Are you in? Childhood obesity ends with you.
