Teyonah Parris is everything. She’s gorgeous, talented, has amazing natural hair and a pleasure to watch on the silver screen as well as on TV. We all anxiously await to see her in Survivor’s Remorse, set to return for season 3 sometime this year and she was just in Spike Lee’s latest movie, Chi-Raq as Lysistrata where she won an African-American Film Critics Association Award for best actress. Honestly, we love just getting a glimpse of her with that hectic schedule.

With such a busy schedule Teyonah has to keep her natural tresses cared for even if her character is rocking a weave or straight hair. Teyonah dished with Allure on just what she’s doing to make sure her hair doesn’t suffer from her beast of a schedule.

“When I’m filming, I keep my hair in cornrows so that they can fit a wig on top of my hair. To care for my braids, I get an empty water bottle and mix up some leave-in conditioner, two drops of argan oil, 15 drops of peppermint oil, 15 drops of tea tree oil, and a little bit of the Anu Essentials Golden Blossom Hair Oil, and spray that concoction on my braids every morning and night. It keeps my hair moisturized and cared for so it doesn’t dry out and break.”

Even when not filming she uses the same concoction and tries to keep her hair in protective styles like twists or braids unless it’s time to head out.

“If I want to just add shine and moisture right before I go out, I just fluff it out and add a bunch of coconut oil, because it’s not greasy and my hair absorbs it. It adds the best shine. After that, I’ll add some of the Thank God Butter Cream Daily Moisturizer for Natural Hair. It’s amazing, and my hair really loves it. It keeps it nice and soft.”

KIM COLES,”BLACK GIRL HAIR IS MAGIC BECAUSE…”

She’s doing something right because her hair is beyond gorgeous and she gives us hair envy whenever we see her. Her concoction sounds simple yet amazing and worth a try.
