Everyone should getaway whether it is across the country, the world or just across town. That’s what Matt and I did a week ago when we were asked to stay a weekend in town (our own personal staycation) to dabble in a little luxury and good food.
STAYING IN LUXURY AT THE WINDSOR COURT NEW ORLEANS
Hotel Monaco is a downtown Denver luxury hotel right in the heart of Denver and one of the Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants. I have to say that I immediately fell in love with the front entrance after being greeting by valet who quickly took our bags and allowed me to survey the area.

The front entrance had a New Orleans feel with charm, historical significance (the hotel now sits in two historical Denver buildings) and boutique-style. I was eager to see what the hotel had to offer at the beginning of the weekend as we checked in Friday evening.
I did not have to wait long for feeling special or tipsy. They have a nightly wine hour and we arrived just in time for it! I sipped on Merlot while Matt took in a glass of Pinot Grigio. There was face painting for the kiddos along with chair massages to truly get you relaxed and ready for the weekend.

The lobby has Denver’s local wild west persona but it warms up when the wine arrives! You feel right at home in the roomy posh lobby with it’s local flair and inviting nature.
Guests and staff were nice and non-intrusive which is what I love as this weekend was about relaxing and enjoying the beauty of the city as tourists. After our glasses of wine I was eager to check out our suite and explore the amenities. There is an onsite fitness center, open to guests 24/7 along with a spa and salon. No pool but we were not there for swimming despite the high temps in Denver lately.

There are two suite styles at the Denver Monaco. The Monte Carlo Suite with One King Bed (where we stayed) and the Mediterranean Spa Suite with One King Bed (pictured above). Both suites have one of the most comfortable hotel beds I have ever slept in with luxury Italian Frette linens.
In each room there is an iron, ironing board, hair dryer and even plush animal print bathrobes which is starkly outside the regular decor but fun nonetheless.

Drapery-adorned archway separates the sitting areas from bedroom which would be perfect for in-room entertaining or just lounging before bed. The decor was staying close to the boutique theme of the hotel and I found it quite pleasing for a weekend away from the norm.
The bathroom was small…OK, super tiny, but with the granite vanity, picturesque mirror and a delightful pocket door, it was still appealing and made me like its quaintness. The room was heavily stocked with everything you might need or forgot to bring from toiletries to a fully stocked bar, snacks and even an in-room ‘pleasure kit’. Hey, we are on vacation, right?
They truly splashed the entire hotel with beauty and a historical feel. Look what I found by the elevators? No, not the glass of Merlot I had to put down to take the picture. The phone! It worked too so I was giddy about the pieces of vintage charm they had sprinkled around the hotel. I also liked how they had bicycles in the foyer that you can rent to tour the city as so many locals do.
Friday night was spent dining at the adjacent Panzano Restaurant for a delightful dinner. We retired early and was up at the crack of whenever we felt like leaving that cozy bed for a yummy breakfast at a favorite eatery in Cherry Creek called Syrup.
AN ELEGANT ITALIAN DINNER FOR TWO AT PANZANO
Saturday was spent touring our city by walking down 16th street mall which is seconds away from the hotel. It was nice knowing as we were sweating terribly (90 degree weather in Denver!) we were never too far from our room with ample AC, lounging room and that bed!
Before dinner at another favorite restaurant of ours, Bayou Bob’s, I left Matt in the room napping while I dipped downstairs for another glass of Merlot. I could get used to this!
It is now time to explain the cow. I do not know it’s name as I was too embarrassed to ask but apparently it is a very popular cow that is the first thing you see on your way to the elevators to your suite. Everyone seems to like to take pictures so I did one as well and I must say it is an interesting, yet not in the least surprising piece of the Monaco Denver. This is DENVER! Of course there must be a cow around somewhere right?
My final thoughts…
I loved this hotel. It was luxurious, it was quiet and it was just what we needed to get away from the day to day grind. Only steps away from the bustling downtown Denver, close to Larimer Square, 16th street mall and every restaurant and/or club you may want to entertain yourself. It’s position allows this hotel to be an ideal spot for a vacation. Honestly, you really do not need a car with this locale.
The bathroom size was the only downside of the hotel. It was clean, the staff was amazingly friendly without being to chatty or intrusive and the amenities were plush, just enough and smart (loved the bikes). It was luxury meets Denver charm and I most definitely would stay here again.
