Thousands of people (especially women) love highlights. The biggest downside is heading to a a pricey salon and plunking down too much money to get them. Couple that with the use of chemicals and it seems like an even less attractive endeavor.

You can by-pass all that by just being a little smart by heading over to your own kitchen instead of a salon and get your highlights the natural way. The following ingredients are natural and easy to get, plus they protect your hair from the harmful effects of chemical highlights.

Beer Light colored beer is excellent for adding highlights to your hair. Empty some 4 bottles into a tub or a basin and dip your hair from tip to roots in it. Then go outside and let your hair get some sun for an hour or so. After that, rinse the beer off with cold water. Do this for 2-3 times a week and always remember to apply some conditioner afterwards. It also adds a lot of shine to your hair.

Honey Honey is pretty useful and helps in lightening your hair. You can apply it straight on to your wet hair. Let it stay for 2 hours and then wash it off. The other way in which honey can be used is with lemon and water in equal parts. Put it all in a spray bottle and apply to slightly damp hair.

Let your hair dry in the sun and then wash the honey off. You will have to give your hair multiple washes because honey is very sticky and takes time to get off. However, it will give your hair a lot of bounce and a sweet scent.

Olive Oil Olive Oil is mostly known for its conditioning and moisturizing qualities but it is also an excellent means of highlighting your hair. Saturate your hair in Olive Oil and give it some sun for an hour or so. Wash off the oil later. You will have to repeat this process for 2-3 times a week. Olive Oil moisturizes your hair and makes them soft and healthy.

Chamomile Tea Let a pot of hot Chamomile Tea cool down a little and use it as the last wash after you wash and condition your hair in the regular manner. Let it dry in the sun for an hour and then wash it off. You will have to repeat it every alternate day until you achieve the desired highlights. It also has an excellent scent which will make your hair smell beautiful.

So, instead of going to your salon and spending too much money and adding chemicals, just go natural and add a little bit of sun to the mixture.  Although it will not give you salon like perfect highlights, it will make them look naturally highlighted and will be beneficial to your hair.
