Seriously Natural Spotlight – Mimi

Via GlobalCouture

My Name is Mimi Irvin “aka” Corporate Chic and creator of MeYE Label Blog. I am a wife, mother of two handsome boys, daughter, friend, and a fashionista that loves to inspire women to be Confident and “Dress the Part, Shop Smart”

How would you describe your style?
I would describe my overall style as Modern Vintage with Edge. I love to incorporate that into my Corporate Daily attire which makes it Unique, Edgy, Sophisticated for the Corporate World.

How do you decide what to wear in the morning?
After I apply my make-up and complete my hair I automatically know the look I am going for that morning. So it starts with my make-up and hair.

What are your favorite wardrobe pieces?
I love printed palazzo pants and long maxi dresses. More vintage looks though. It’s something about bringing life back into vintage clothes. I love it.

Where do you typically shop for clothes and accessories?
I love.. love to find deals at a resale/thrift/consignment store. I found a couple on IG such as @marlowesimonevintage and @anglesvintageboutique. My local resale shop that I mainly go to in Houston TX is Buffalo Exchange on 2439 Bissonnet ST. Of course I love the discount franchise retail stores such as Target as well!

Let’s talk hair. How long have you been natural? What is your normal regimen.
I contemplated the idea of going natural in early 2011 and although I loved the relaxed looked and didn’t suffer much from breakage, I wanted something different. I was set forth to go on assignment in the Netherlands with my company in January 2012, so I decided December 2011 would be my last relaxer. I wouldn’t have to worry about the Texas humidity and I felt the transition would be easier to deal with in cooler temperatures.

As I tried many styles as I could during my transition, 8 months would be the end of that road. I decided to do my BC August 2012. As I sat in the mirror cutting each section it was very hard to get through. I had about 3 inches of new growth but after completing that hard effort, I looked in the mirror and said yes this is ME and I will ROCK it.

If my hair is not twisted, I typically will pin it up at night and sleep in satin bonnet. In the mornings I will spritz with water, add some Shea Moisture Reconstructive Conditioner (maybe Coconut oil) and style in an up-do.

How does your natural hair work with your style?
I believe my natural hair is like icing on the “Cake” to my style. Natural hair gives you so much variety. It’s amazing and I just have fun with it. Are you working on any ventures that we should know about. All future events and new ventures will be communicated on all my social media communities.

I am the fashion blogger and vlogger of Meye Label (pronounced MY Label) I also feature “Treasure Find Fridays on the blog, where individuals can showcase their awesome “find” from a thrift, resale or consignment shop. I also share my unique and inexpensive corporate attire daily with followers on the ‘Corporate Chic’ Facebook page. Corporate Chic showcases a confident woman who adds “flava” to corporate attire on a budget.

From that “Meye Label” was created to inspire women to realize that personal style is about YOU and about creating style that represents you by adding unique pieces to those items you currently possess. My motto is “Dress the Part, Shop Smart”.

Nice to see a conversation going. I would love to loose naturals paying more attention to us because we are certainly here. 🙂
