The sky was gray and the temperature was low. Very low actually, like below 10 degrees…yes you heard me right, less than 10 degrees. The frigid weather did not lower the mood for me and my sister though. We were bundled up and ready to drive the little over an hour drive to Colorado Springs to meet MahoganyCurls at her Dine and Shop Event.

Me killing time while warming the car for the long ride to Colorado Springs. It was soooo cold! |
Was I excited? Hell yea! Her videos helped me a lot when I started the curly girl method at the beginning of this year. I had the book by Lorraine Massey, Curly Girl: The Handbook [With DVD], but I needed to see what others have tried. When I came across Jess ( MahoganyCurls), I was in awe of her gorgeous hair and her sweetness that just jumped at you from the videos and yes, she is that sweet in person.
I tried AS I AM Coconut CoWash Cleansing Conditioner as my cleansing conditioner after I saw her review. I eventually found out she was local and that was all I needed to hear. A vlogger that’s local means she is dealing with the same weather issues as me. I became a follower after that.
I loved the idea of a dine and shop event. It sounded classy and inviting and it truly was. As we dined at a local Italian restaurant in the Springs, the room was filling up quickly with all types of naturals with beautiful hair and pleasant vibes.

There were giveaways, gift boxes for all of us and the object was to mingle, laugh, connect and enjoy the night. It was nice seeing so many naturals in one room. It was about 60 of us! I met some wonderful women and my sister and I were so glad we came. She had other natural hair gurus there too. Ebonicurls and Nik Scott was among the guests and Ebonicurls even had scrunchies in our boxes. Eboni of Ebonicurls has GORGEOUS hair and is super sweet too. They made everyone feel right at home.

So many giveaways and gifts!! |
After dinner we received gift boxes that were FILLED with full sized items from great companies! (Here is the list:Dine and Shop Event). After dinner we headed over to Ulta which was in the same shopping center. Jess went around the store showing us products that were CG friendly (Curly Girl friendly) and what to look for and want to avoid when product shopping.

I can sum up that event in three words: A LOVELY EVENING. It was fun and educational and it felt amazing meeting and connecting with so many black positive women. I’m sorry but there aren’t that many of us here in Colorado so me and my sister were enjoying the company. Jess says she’ll be having another event in the Spring and we will most definitely be there.
Take care naturals,
Sabrina
Oh I would have had a BLAST. I wish she could do something like that in my area 🙁
So, I knew that I "knew you" from somewhere and it is from this amazing blog! I've been following this blog for some time. I'm bummed that I didn't formally introduce myself, even though we shared a few laughs over the L'Oréal and influx of beautiful, quiet, AA women ;). Next time, I'll be sure to say hi and personally complement you on your blog! -De'Aura (the KCKT WnG girl in the bright red coat, ha!)
Hey girl!!! I'm bummed we didn't talk either but I know we'll see each other at the next event because me and sister will both be there. Thank you for the kind words! Yea, I clown A LOT but it was fun, right? LOL You know we scared all of them THAT night! They all had to have an extra glass of wine to calm their nerves after we left!
You live in the Springs?
You would have enjoyed it. I really did and don't worry she's gonna be in Chicago in February and somewhere else the next month. Have to check her blog for sure. She'll be coming to a place near you I'm sure.
Wow. Love the recap! I would have loved to meet her!
Thank you. She is super sweet and so tiny! She looks like a kid. Loved the vibe the whole evening had and she planned a wonderful get together.
Had such a great time at my first Meet and greet. It was nice to see so many naturals in one room. I cannot wait for the next one.
Yep, I love here in the Springs. I believe there is a natural group that meets out here, but I haven't made it to one yet. Are you out here as well?
I'm just glade they didn't pull the fire alarm to kick us out. I'm sure someone wanted too!
Me either!
We did take our time leaving didn't we? LOL I'm in Littleton so we made the drive and it was OK even though the weather was awful! I don't go to many natural hair meetups bu couldn't pass that one up.
Lovely!
Thank you stranger!!!
