Product Review – Natural Hair Community Nettles Hair Tea

Have you heard of hair teas?  I have through a fellow blogger Allie who was featured as an older Natural back in December 2011.  She’s been super busy since then and now has an organic product line that includes hair teas.

I’m not gonna lie….trying a hair tea sounded so good to me.  I don’t know much about Ayruvedic Powders or herbal blends so I was happy to give the Nettles Hair Tea a try. I had to try the Nettles hair tea instead of her Growth Stimulating Hair tea because the latter has Rosemary in it. Allie explains that although cooking with Rosemary is fine, but using it in this tea is not good for persons who are pregnant, have epilepsy or have high blood pressure.

“I began to have an interest in making my own products shortly after my big chop, I tried to find products that would keep my hair moisturized, shiny and healthy and I began to research Ayurvedic Powders and Herbal Blend. I spent hours researching and experimenting using only 100% organic, natural products. Soon I began making products for myself, friends, and family. This was the beginning of Allie’s Natural Hair Community Products. These products were designed to work for natural, curly, locs, transitioning or relaxed hair. I hope you love them as much as I do!” Allie’s Natural Hair Community Products

Nettles Hair Tea

“Growth Stimulating Hair Tea – Can be used as a final rinse, moisturizing spritz, in Ayurvedic mixtures, Rhassoul or Bentonite Clay mixtures and conditioners.

Nettle: Prevents dandruff and increases circulation to the scalp which could also benefit hair growth.
Lavender: Stimulates hair growth, aids in hair loss, relieves dandruff, and promotes calm and relaxation.
Hibiscus Petals: Stimulates blood circulation and ensures the supply of essential nutrients to the hair follicles.” Allie’s Natural Hair Community Products

The directions she sent with the tea were quite helpful and explains after brewing the tea you can use most of it as a final rinse on wash day (prior to applying leave-in conditioner) and the remainder in your spritz bottle.  She suggests adding a carrier oil and an essential oil to the spray bottle but also mentions the tea will last two weeks in the fridge or only one week if not. The brewed tea can also be used to mix Bentonite or Rhassoul Clays, and Ayurvedic Powders.

Natural Hair Community Nettles Hair Tea  *****

Oh man….I’m in love!  I have to admit that the idea of a hair tea makes me giddy anyway, so when I tried it and loved it I KNEW it would become a staple. I decided to try the tea as a final rinse and followed her instructions in the video she made on how to do it. (below). That was a big mistake for me because bending over and doing ANYTHING to my hair on wash day is a no no if I don’t want tangles. Applying it that way gave me a bad experience with tangles the first week.  I learned from my mistake so on the second week of the final rinse I leaned back and applied the tea from top of my head and had no issues.  It smells great and felt good in my hair. It’s too early to tell if it’s increasing my hair growth since I’ve only done two applications but will keep it up to see since I LOVE it in my spray bottle!

As a spritz it surpassed my favorite lavender water.  I added jojoba oil and a few drops of lavender oil to the tea and it moisturized my hair better than anything I’ve tried as a spritz to date.   2nd day hair became a reality for me when I started using my lavender water but I have found a way to have even BETTER 2nd day hair along 3rd day hair with this tea!  It seems to awaken my hair and refresh my curls better than any other hydration spray I have found since I’ve been Natural.

Now, I really have to like this to be willing to buy it online and that is the only way you can get it.  It’s pretty reasonable with an 8oz jar for $10 or a 2oz jar for $5.  You only need 2-3 tablespoons of the hair tea for each batch which can easily yield your final rinse and spritz for two weeks if left in the fridge.

If you are interested in giving this tea a try then you will be happy to learn Allie has decided to sponsor a giveaway of her Nettles Hair Tea!!  Yes, another giveaway of a great product will start tomorrow so check tomorrow’s post on the several ways to enter.

Take care Naturals,
Sabrina
