Product Review – OBIA Natural Haircare Curl Enhancing Custard

OBIA Natural Haircare

I was recently approached by OBIA Natural Haircare to try three of their products for a review.  I didn’t hesitate to give them a try since their motto is:  “Natural Ingredients for natural hair care.” I felt I couldn’t go wrong with that since I only use products with natural ingredients.

***This is not a paid review and only give my true feelings about this product.

The company focus is to use natural ingredients like carrier oils, herbs and essential oils.  The products are cruelty free and vegan and they have a pretty extensive list of what they DON’T have:

No mineral oil, sulfates, toxins, petroleum, colorants, drying alcohols, silicone, or gluten.  All of their preservatives are paraben and formaldehyde free while the fragrances are phthalate free.

Curl Enhancing Custard is used to make your curls pop in a wash and go or to smooth down edges and it’s $15.00 for a 12oz. bottle.

“This alcohol-free formula hydrates, elongates, and provides super shine to all types of hair.  Does not leave a waxy residue or buildup. Infused with argan oil, grape seed oil, and olive oil.” OBIA Natural Haircare

I was eager to give this line a try. I received this with a Curl Moisture Creams (leave-in conditioner) and a Curl Hydration Spray so I planned on staying pretty close to my regular wash and go routine with minor tweaks.  The custard itself is a slight off-white in color and has a very muted but pleasant smell.  Smell is SO important to me so a very light one was good.  It felt light to the touch and non-greasy.  I was going to use this after I co-washed, applied the Curl Mositure Cream and scrunched with an old t-shirt.

The directions were pretty straight-forward on the website and they even have a video to help.  When I applied it to my hair I immediately felt the stickiness as I ran it through.  There was no residue and I began to worry about flaking. It went a long way and it felt heavy (just a tad) after I applied it all over so I truly didn’t know WHAT to expect when it dried.

The first five ingredients of OBIA Natural Haircare Curl Enhancing Custard

Olea Europaea (Olive) Oil,

Vitis vinfera (Grape seed) Oil,

Argania spinosa (Argan) Oil,

****   Above average.  Will probably buy again.
***** Excellent!  Will buy again and may become a staple product.

OBIA Natural Haircare Curl Enhancing Custard ****

I was impressed by this custard.  It was sticky and felt heavy at first but seemed to keep my curls defined, springy and frizz free.  I used it once with the conditioner supplied by the company and other times with my own leave-in and really liked it MUCH better with my own.  That means it plays well with others and that is a plus.

It seems you can ONLY buy it online and that is a no no for me since I love the ability to drive to my local Target or Walgreens for my hair products.  Another downside to this product was the appearance of flakes when my hair was dry, but ONLY when I used it with their conditioner.  Never noticed it with my own. I also suffered some pretty serious shrinkage but when I used it again I banded my hair to combat that. Despite some issues I had it seems like a good product and learning to work with it will garner great results.  I feel it’s worth a try.

Check out my review of the Curl Moisture Cream by OBIA tomorrow, a review on the Curl Hydration Spray on Thursday and a surprise on Friday!!

Take care Naturals,

Sabrina
