I ended Part 1 mentioning I was the wash and go queen and Lasha had styled my hair to be worn this way without me having to wet it for an entire week. She did the rake and shake Ouidad method but she had to just lay my hair down and not shake since I have corkscrew curls as she called it along with tons of shrinkage. I already knew how badly my hair shrinks but she was careful to discuss each step as she worked on my hair. It took longer than I would EVER spend on my hair but I wanted to give it a try anyway.
I loved the look after she was done. It was great although I felt it was a little flat. She explained that I would get more volume as the days wore on and to make sure to spray my hair with the Moroccanoil Glimmer Shine every night prior to wearing my satin bonnet. She showed me how to lightly fluff my hair at the roots in the mornings and I would be on my way.

I decided to purchase a few other products to use to recreate the style as well as doing a wash and go if I wanted. I am such an impulse buyer sometimes! I felt she was encouraging me to not do the wash and go often but she didn’t try to push. I went on my merry way with a smile on my face with my new do ready for it to get some volume. Here’s how it looked freshly out of the salon.
Overlook the expression. I don’t have a clue what I was thinking about. I got many on FB who loved the look but I was ready for the volume. By the next morning, after doing exactly as I was told, I barely touched my roots and got frizz! I was too outdone. I wet my hair and style accordingly with my Kinky Curly products and was happy. Did I give up to easily? Maybe, but I know what I like and I’m entitled. I decided I would take back the three bottle of Ouidad I bought but keep the Moroccanoil Glimmer Shine. I really liked that.
Saturday I went back to the shop and the owner gladly took back my purchases but asked what products I used. I told her Kinky Curly and she gave me a face. I was kinda put off but said nothing. She then tells me if I notice any dryness (since she’s had many clients say that KC dries out their hair) to be aware. I said thank you and went on my way. I didn’t like the face and I haven’t heard anyone say that before but I’m not gonna worry about it. I rarely suffer from dryness and whenever I do it’s usually because I’ve been neglectful with DC’s or not using oils on my hair at night.
The experience was pleasant and the cut was sooo worth it! I will be going back to get the special cut to keep my hair styled but allowing it to grow. I expect to be there about 3 or 4 times a year. No, I didn’t like the dryer since I’ve been staying away from heat but it was OK for this. I recommend this shop to any curly who wants experts in her hair. I really should have waited before I bought those products but they have a great return policy. Give the products a try if you are looking but if you are happy with what you have then get your cut or color and pampering and then go home and use what you love. I am.
Take care Naturals,
Sabrina
If it works for you then do your wash n go's with KC. Everyone's head of hair is different so some may experience dry hair and others don't. They cut looks great and like you, sometimes I just have to wet my hair because I love my defined curls and hate frizz. Unless I'm wearing a puff or afro.
Thanks Jen. That makes me feel better.
The shop owner probably made that face because of the reported experiences others have had — it didn't really sound as if she had first had knowledge — and because gels can be drying . . . even light ones. But if you are taking care of your hair business – and it sounds like you are – the make her face no never mind. Just like you did.
Thanks. I plan on going back because they do great work and will just overlook them trying to sell me their products.
