Natural hair is a WHAT….A CULT????

I’ve seen a few tweets mentioning this but what really threw me for a loop was seeing a post from a Natural when I was just trolling the web.

“I feel like this natural hair movement is turning into a cult 0_0. You must live by these rules set by #naturalhair God’s or else you’re not a true natural & are kicked out of the club. The coveted club of youtube videos & natural hair blog Heaven!

So many rules to follow. You must co-wash. How dare you use regular shampoo to cleanse your hair! All those sulfates. Uh uh girl. You aint really NATURAL unless you co-wash or use sulfate free shampoo. ONLY. Did you just use HEAT on your hair?! How dare you pick up that ceramic flat iron and destroy your curl pattern like that?! Don’t even think about greasing your scalp. I know it’s dry but blue magic is a no no!”

That’s just one post I’ve read after I did a search looking for info on this Cult business, but apparently quite a few people feel we are in a cult.  A cult?  I find that soooo offensive.  Not because I don’t think serious Naturals are in cults but because I make fun of fools in cults and would never belong to one!  I see people in cults like the pic above.  Crazy, hand holding, doe eyed followers who have no clue their bank accounts as well as their souls are being drained by the leader….and who the hell is our Cult leader by the way?  Shouldn’t a Cult HAVE one?!?!  I am sooo offended.

I’ve noticed it’s just about as many Non-Naturals as Naturals who have this feeling about us, (I assume I’m in the cult since I have a Natural hair blog and I try to use only natural ingredients in my hair products.)  but this is kinda funny in a way.  A Cult??  I can’t stop saying it!  Just because wanting to wear my hair naturally and being really into it doesn’t mean I’m in a secret group and trying to convert others while hating all chemicals….wait a minute…maybe this IS a Cult.  Damn…

No, I am not agreeing with this nonsense nor will I dignify this label with any seriousness.  If you wanna think we are part of a Cult because we do all the things miss lady above is making fun of then I’m all for it.  I truly don’t care.  Just one problem…

We need a leader…

This seriously made me laugh! It never fails that we find ways to introduce discord amongst one another. I have been natural for almost 2 1/2 years and have seen some pretty extreme views but at the end of the day I am going to do what is best for ME. Who am I to assume what is best for me, is best for the next person? Who am I to judge or condemn? Some people just need to get a grip. Whatever you do, DO YOU ladies!

No judging over here either hers241! I'm just doing my thing and yes, I like natural ingredients and yes I don't use heat or color my hair. Am I in a cult because of it? NO! I am just doing what I want with my hair and not gonna tell another woman what to do with hers.

To be honest there are Natural Hair Nazi's out there. I color my hair but I feel that I am natural because I don't have an relaxer. Now you have others(Natural Hair Nazi's) the will crucify those that use color, heat to straiten their hair, sulfate shampoos etc. I don't care what you use on your natural or relaxer, colored hair. I say use what works for you. Only you know what works for your hair.

Where are the Nazis? They must be on forums or something because I've only encountered some of them there but that was early in my Natural hair journey and I tend to stay away from the extremists. I ran into some who didn't even want a curl or a coil. They only wanted kinks in their hair! That was so long ago that I guess I expected all that had gone away. I haven't really run into any who had a problem with color or the flat iron.
