Mizani Thermasmooth Conditioner |
I went to ULTA a couple of nights ago looking for a conditioner since I was out of my AO Honeysuckle Rose. I was lazy and didn’t wanna drive all the way to Whole Foods. My interest was peaked a little by my Natural haired sister who went a couple of weeks ago to ULTA and was informed by a sales person how good of a line Mizani was. Up until now I’ve never used it but have been hearing about it so I decided to take the plunge and purchase a product.
“Thermasmooth Conditioner
A luxurious, cream conditioner that softens and smoothes the hair cuticle for optimal manageability and shine prior to thermal styling. The advance C3 Smoothing Complex reinforces with inner cellular fortifying ceramide to help preserve elasticity and protect hair from thermal styling damage.” www.Mizani-usa.com
Mizani claims:
“ideal for use on natural, excessively curly hair to hair that is relaxed and or color treated.” www.Mizani-usa.com
I wish I would have read that before I purchased it because I don’t believe any product can be used on ALL hair types. I also don’t believe any hair product can be used on Natural and Chemically treated hair, but I was in the store and didn’t have access to the website to check. I was at the mercy of just reading the ingredients and I should have backed up when I read the back of it.
I did do a quick search of the third ingredient, Behentrimonium Methosulfate, and found favorable mentions including on CurlyNikki.com. It’s a lighter detangler than it’s cousin Behenthrimonium Sulfate so I was willing to give it a try and decided to buy the 8.5 oz. for $19.00. Yea, it was expensive especially when I get 11 oz. of AO Honeysuckle Rose for $11.00 at Whole Foods. Believe me when I say I hesitated for a minute.
I can sum this product up with one word….ROUGH! That’s what my hair felt like when I put it on and there was no slip. It felt rough when I rinsed it out and even my KC Knot Today couldn’t help me. I ended up yanking a ton of hair out of my head using this stuff and I wasn’t happy about that at all!
The first five ingredients in Mizani Thermasmooth Conditioner:
Aqua/Water
Cetearyl Alcohol
Behentrimonium Methosulfate
Amodimethicone
Parfum/Fragrance

* Poor rating. Will not be buying again ever!!
** Mediocre. Will not be buying again.
*** Average. May or may not buy again.
**** Above average. Will probably buy again.
***** Excellent! Will buy again and may become a staple product.

I hated it! Not to the point of giving it a poor rating because I didn’t use it with the other three products for the four step program but it shouldn’t have made my hair feel rough regardless of that. I’m sure it would have felt somewhat better if I used the entire line but I can’t afford it and I can use just AO Honeysuckle Rose by itself with no problems.
I don’t like the list of the first five ingredients either. For the price and the ingredients I shouldn’t have even picked it up but don’t worry. I brought it back for a full refund to ULTA, drove to Whole Foods and picked up the AO Honeysuckle Rose. Being lazy didn’t work for me at all!
This line may work for some but it didn’t work for me and I will make a point of staying away from Behentrimonium Methosulfate and stick with more Natural ingredients in my conditioners.
Take care Naturals,
Sabrina
I have always wondered about this brand. So glad I read the review, with the price point I would expect so much more.
No doubt.
Why would you buy and use the conditioner w/o the shampoo? Kinda stupid! I'm sure you would've gotten way better results if you'd done things the right way.
If you would have read the entire review you would have seen that I mentioned that I'm sure I would have had better results if I had but with other brands just using the conditioner yielded good results. Thanks for your rude comments anyway. All kinds make the world go round!
I am just curious. Is this product good for color treated hair. I brought some, that has gone on sale @ a salon, that was closing. I just purchased it, but I do have color treated hair. I just purchased it, and my hair color is black, naturally I do my roots that are turning white. I just want to make sure that it will not strip the Redken color in it. I am due for a touch up, but don’t want to strip what color is already in.
