Shamwow! |
Yes, the commercials are stupid. Yes, the guy seems weird and yes, I’ve seen the photos of him and his girlfriend and the fight. Let’s get all that drama nonsense out of the way so we can discuss just how GREAT this is for our hair!
I’ve been telling my sister about what I’ve heard about it in hair forums. They say it’s great for our hair as opposed to using an old tee-shirt or buying expensive towels for curly haired women like Curls like us. Those products mainly have to be purchased online and you already know how I feel about that. She was at a car show last month and saw an agent selling them. She spoke with the agent and mentioned what I had heard and the woman knew EXACTLY what she was talking about and agreed. They are great for drying curly hair and many women have been buying them just for that. My sister picked up a pack for herself and one for me.
“ShamWow cloths are made out of a rayon sort of material which is woven in a certain way to make it feel a bit like felt when you first get it new. But once it becomes wet, it will become a soft leathery material.” ShamWow
It definitely feels like a different sort of towel and not quite mirroring one of those micro-fibers towels but different from regular bath towels. I was immediately intrigued when I got them and tried them right away. I was not disappointed. It takes very little blotting to dry your hair. I tried it when I got out of the shower (after co-washing) and my hair was soaking wet with a little Knot Today (Kinky Curly product) still in it. I carefully blotted my hair so it was still very damp but not dripping wet and then proceeded with my regular routine. It was great.

DermOrganic Leave-in treatment |
I don’t mind the dripping wet hair but I know there are others out there who aren’t crazy about it so I gave it a go. Now, I don’t like going to bed with a wet head so I also tried it one night after I co-washed and used it to dry my hair. It came out cottony soft with just a little dampness and I applied some new oil I’m using, DermOrganic Leave-in Conditioner I got from Nicole, my stylist. I’ll be doing a product review on it tomorrow.
Why is the ShamWow such a secret? I hardly found much info on the Natural Hair blogs about it but more in the forums. It’s got a goofy spokesperson but that’s no reason to not get the word out on how great it is for our hair. I’ve also seen it in Wal-Mart by all the other, ‘AS SEEN ON TV’ crap so why not mention it and tell others how easy it is to get one. Maybe not many bloggers have tried it but I say they really need to give it a try.
I think my sister paid $25 for 2 sets of 4 at the Car Show and I don’t know the price in Wal-Mart but that’s pretty reasonable. I use it over and over again and still haven’t used all of the yet. I’ve learned to not put them in the dryer although if you accidentally do (which I’ve done) you can still use it. They suggest not to do that but it got lost in the laundry and whatcha gonna do?
I will be using mine from now on and even after I get out of the shower I like blotting it just a little so by the time I get to work it dries much quicker. It’s a great product to keep around especially if you are tired of using old tee-shirts. I hope you give it a try and if you do let me know so I can gauge how others find it works.

Beautiful clothing for beautiful black women can be found at Seriously Natural Boutique.
Hi Sabrina, I get my microfiber towels from the $1 store. Even the mirco fiber turban…. very economical.
That's awesome! I always forget to hit up those stores and when I finally get there I am a shopping fool. I'll try and remember when I need some new ones. Thanks for the heads up.
