Technique Tuesdays – A look into some old and new techniques used on Natural Hair
Last month I discussed the Pre-Wash Oil Treatment as a technique for Naturals to keep moisture in their hair. Shampoo can strip the hair of it’s essential oils and an oil treatment prior to shampooing can keep the shampoo from stripping all the oils from your tresses.
After posting it I had decided to give it a try. It’s suggested to do BEFORE EVERY SHAMPOO, but I didn’t think I could maintain that schedule. Well, it’s been over a month and I’ve been using it ever since and have noticed a tremendous difference in my hair! I’m proud to say I’ve done it EVERY shampoo since the post in February and I’m glad I did. I was fighting dryness before I tried this technique. It was a combination of the dry weather in Denver and my lack of proper moisturizing.
I’ve never used Avocado oil but I use coconut oil and olive oil pretty regularly. During the past month, I’ve used coconut oil and olive oil as my pre-shampoo treatment and noticed a pretty significant difference in my hair between the two. Coconut oil left my hair MUCH more moisturized than olive oil and let’s not even mention how much messier the olive oil was when doing the oil treatment! Hands down the coconut oil was better and I will be using that for my oil treatment from now on. I may try the Avocado oil in the future and will give my results.
I just wanted to give a follow-up of the technique and what worked best for me. Now, I stress FOR ME. Reason being, everyone is different as well as our hair so what may work for me may not work for you and vice versa. That is an important fact that should always be in the back of your mind when trying any new techniques.
Hope all you lovely Naturals have given this Pre-wash oil treatment a try. It’s so worth the work and mess! My hair is much happier because of it. Take care,
