Build Better Hair With Butternut Squash

Build Better Hair With Butternut Squash

Trying to lose weight and eating better has it's perks for your hair. Many of the very veggies I have been incorporating into my diet has been giving me good hair and one of the biggest on the list is butternut squash. This most common winter squash is quite popular during winter although actually grown during summer and harvested during fall. Cultivated under warmer climates of South and Central American regions, butternut squash belongs to the Cucurbitaceae family of field pumpkins and known as "the apple of God."

I'm a lover of healthy foods (when I'm in my right mind) and as of late, I've been a good girl! I've been recently noticing my hair has some serious sheen going on and had to find out what was giving me all this love. I discovered my new fave add-on in my smoothie was to blame and started investigating on why something so tasty in my smoothie was so lovely in my hair too.

This pear-shaped veggie has been used in soups and casseroles throughout the world but don't skimp on what it can do for your tresses. Sure, it's got antioxidantsm dietary fiber and phytonutrients but its claim to fame comes from the massive amounts of vitamin A. Just one cup of butternut squash provides a whopping 437% percent of your vitamin A for a day!

What's so great about vitamin A when it comes to your hair?  Vitamin A helps to moisturize hair by producing sebum which keeps your hair follicles from drying out. It promotes growth and development, including cell growth and Beta-Carotene (which often turns into vitamin A) is a pigment that's crucial for promoting hair to grow by reducing breakage.

Butternut squash is super heavy in vitamin C, iron, and riboflavin which not only make the hair stronger but give it added luster. Now, simply eating this amazing veggie will do your tresses some good, but we are among some die-hard DIYers who love a good hair recipe so I've got a great one from NC for a winter DC treatment.
