Beauty in all forms is such a big part of our lives. The beauty that is inside and out must be cultivated and despite my desire to become a minimalist, I do find the need to use some beauty products. Some are DIY but most are store-bought and I refuse to feel bad for it. It is what it is and I will accept it.
THE 5 BEST BEAUTY BOXES FOR BLACK WOMEN
With that being said I did have a mixture of DIY and store-bought favorites this year. I'm kinda surprised by one and utterly relieved by another. This will be my first end of the year "favorites" on beauty products but I see how important it is to showcase what has really worked for me or what I fell in love with over the past 12 months.
MAKEUP FOREVER HD FOUNDATION became my favorite after I saw my sister looking flawless (she has way better skin than I do) early this year. What I liked about it was how smooth her skin looked. I went to Sephora and found my color and was amazed as how well it looked on me. This product really understands women have undertones and I knew it was the makeup for me when I took a picture and no longer looked like a ghost! I have struggled for years to find a foundation that matched me. I only had near perfect matches at high-end lines at department stores. I cannot seem to find the right color with the regular brands like Revlon or Almay and refuse to even try anymore.
5 OF THE BEST RED LIPSTICKS FOR BLACK WOMEN
An oil-free medium coverage liquid foundation that covers skin imperfections flawlessly while remaining invisible even under the most magnifying HD lens. Makeup forever
I use a primer (below) along with the MAKE UP FOREVER HD microfinish powder and all three really keep me looking great with minimal shine (yes, everything makes me shine unfortunately). I haven't done a review of this yet but it will get 5 out of 5 stars when I do.
Back in the day you would have never caught me using something as important as a primer. I just didn't realize I needed one. Well, the lovely makeup artists at SEHPORA made me aware of just how important one is. Now, I first tried MAKEUP FOREVER's primer but it wasn't too my liking. I asked an associate at SEHPORA and she suggested I try one of theirs. I instantly fell in love!
A silky smooth primer that penetrates quickly to mattify the complexion. Keep a matte complexion for eight hours with this velvety smooth primer, specially formulated to mattify instantly while absorbing excess sebum. The special formula creates an excellent canvas for concealer or foundation, ensuring smoother application and longer, more-even wear. SEPHORA
No parabens or synthetic fragrances so I am happy about that and I like how as soon as it's on I feel it is getting my face ready for the foundation. I cannot explain it but you do feel it does what it is supposed to do. No review on this either but it would get 5 out of 5 starts as well.
DEAD SKIN REMOVER FOOT SOAK
I live in dry ass Colorado and pedicures are a MUST if you want to have pretty feet. Despite the necessity for them the money is not always available to get them done at least once a month. I was getting kind of big on Do It Yourself projects and even have a board on Pinterest called DIY . I came across this and had to give it a try to see if it really works. Yes, it does and it deserves a spot on my favorite beauty products of 2013!
Have you tried this or even HEARD about it? Well, this actually works and if you don't believe me then just give it a try and you will see. If you are a DIYer then you probably already have all of these things in your house anyway so but out the basin and watch the dead skin slouch off with a pumice stone.
I am enjoying my favorite things of 2013 and think I will continue on with my favorite DIY projects and maybe even my favorite blogs I came across this year. Take care and be safe during the holidays.
