Seriously Natural Feature - Sherry

1.  How long have you been Natural?

I've been natural for three years and three months.
2. Why did you become Natural?
I always wanted to be natural but didn’t have the guts to do forward with it. I loved my relaxed short haircut but I wanted a change and I was curious about my natural hair b/c I didn’t get to enjoy my hair as a kid b/c I had a serious scalp disease.  It caused a lot of breakage, thinned my hair out, and stopped it from growing. When I finally grew out of the disease, I begged my mother for a relaxer b/c like so many of us I was tired of being burned by the hot comb from off the stove.

3. Was it a hard transition?  How did you transition?
No, the transition wasn’t hard because it only lasted for 3 months and my hair was already short when I start transitioning.  I transitioned with a fabulous weave that looked similar to my real relaxed hair.

4. Did your age aid in your decision to go Natural?
Yes, my age played a big part b/c when I turned 30 my motto was I’m thirty and fabulous and it’s time to do me and not worry about what others think of how I look. It was time to make that  change from a young woman to a more mature fabulous woman of 30.

5. Does your age make it easier or harder to be Natural?
I think my age makes it easier to be natural b/c at 30 I was more comfortable & confident in my own skin.

6. Do you see many Older Naturals in your area?  If so, what styles are they sporting?
I see more naturals in my own age group than older or younger naturals. The styles I see a lot of naturals in my area sporting are twist outs & braid outs.

7. How do you primarily wear your Natural hair?
My style of choice is curly fro or some type of protective style like maybe a wig or crotchet braids.

8. Favorite products and/or product line?
Right now my favorite is certainly Carol’s Daughter Monoi line and Coconut Co-wash and my very own Herbal Growth Oil.

9. Any words of wisdom or encouragement for other Older Naturals already Natural or thinking about it?
I would suggest that you go natural for you and not for anyone else and don’t let family and friends deter you from doing what you want to do with your own hair. When you do decide to make the change to go natural remember wear it with confidence and love who you are in your own skin.

I am in love with Sherry's hair! It is stunning and she looks great in this pic above.  I just have to thank her for sharing and I truly appreciate her words of wisdom for one considering going natural. I'm super curious about that Herbal growth oil she makes and Sherry's so right about doing this for yourself and not for others.  It's a wonderful journey but it is sometimes hard.  I truly hope all gain as much insight as I do from these posts.

I'm always looking for lovely Naturals to share so don't be shy!

Take care Naturals,
