“Brazilian Blowout violates California air quality law”

Well, it's official.  The California A.G.'s office is asking a California court to “cease all sales of Brazilian Blowout Solution in or into the state of California.”

I've talked about this procedure quite a lot in this blog and I feel that my readers want or need to know updates on it.  In October of last year I wrote about BB launching a new product in my post, More disturbing news on the Brazilian Blowout.  Well it appears the fight is far from over.  In January of this year the California A.G. announced a settlement with the manufacturer of BB that:

"require(ed) the company to warn consumers and hair stylists that two of its most popular hair smoothing products emit formaldehyde gas.  The settlement requires GIB, LLC, which does business under the name Brazilian Blowout, to cease deceptive advertising that describes two of its popular products as formaldehyde-free and safe. The company must also make significant changes to its website and pay $600,000 in fees, penalties and costs." (source)

Within that same "Consent Judgement" three separate labs (two of which were picked by BB) would have to test for levels of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs).  Well, as of October of this year the results were in.

“Analysis of Brazilian Blowout Professional Smoothing Solution by all three laboratories, two selected by Brazilian Blowout, have produced unanimous conclusion: The product violates California air quality law.” (Pretty Toxic)

Despite the findings of all three labs this is still not over!  The manufacturers of BB are now questioning the test results but the A.G. is asking the courts to cease all sales according to the findings of the labs.  The court date was set for November (last month) and when I find out the conclusion (or the next chapter in this story) I'll pass along the information.

  1. How are they going to question the lab testing when they pick two of the labs. So, I guess it's a conspiracy to shut down the company.

    1. By following this story I have come across tons of site and info on all the toxic ingredients in our beauty products. Kind of scary but they are going to fight because they are so profitable.

  2. Girl, this is crazy. However you and I know some women will still get this procedure done. The picture is enough to scare me.

    1. No doubt! I am getting squeamish about a lot of chemicals we use on our bodies and in our homes. This is ridiculous.
