This product cannot stay OUT of the news but actually that is a good thing. The more information we have on this product the better choices we can make in regards to using it.
“The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and several State OSHA programs are investigating questions and complaints from hair salon owners and workers about possible formaldehyde exposure from hair smoothing products. Some of these products have been labeled as “formaldehyde-free.” ” http://www.osha.gov/index.html
“During Federal OSHA investigations, air tests showed formaldehyde at levels above OSHA’s limits in salons using Brazilian Blowout Acai Professional Smoothing Solution, labeled “formaldehyde free,” and Brasil Cacau Cadiveu.” http://www.osha.gov/index.html
Well, what does all this mean? To me, it means the Brazilian Blowout is dangerous. With all this bad press it appears the owners of the BB are fighting back but in a non-legal manner.
Launched in the Fall of 2011, Brazilian Blowout Zero touts 0% released Formaldehyde before, during and after the treatment.
“What makes Brazilian Blowout ZERO different from other professional smoothing treatments on the market? Most professional smoothing treatments are formulated using a methylene glycol based bonding system.
Brazilian Blowout ZERO is formulated with a breakthrough Plant-Derived KeraSafe Bonding System. This bonding system releases 0% Formaldehyde before, during or after the in-salon smoothing treatment.” www.brazilianblowout.com
BB is still selling the original and still stands behind it 100%. They are just launching the Zero with a plant derived bonding system so salon owners, stylists and consumers who were leery with all the bad press of the original BB will feel more comfortable using this new product.
I guess we will just have to see…
