Talking to you: Older Natural (Turning in Your Work Badge for a Student I.D.)

What a big decision to make.  Changing careers.  Switching gears midway through your career journey.  Let me rephrase that.  It’s a HUGE decision to make.  Scary as well.  It’s not something you choose to do on a whim.

I’ve decided that I’ll be going back to get my Master’s.  I’m seeing too many women older than me or even the same age being left behind or overlooked for promotions for their lack of education.  Back when I was graduating from high school having a BA or BS was all you really needed to get a good job.  Now, an Undergraduate degree barely gets you in the door.  So much has changed in such a short amount of time it seems.

Apparently I’m not the only one thinking about going back to school and apparently some women are considering quitting their Full-time jobs to do it!  That’s not even in the cards for me and my family.  I’ll be going to school online or at night while still working.  My kids are less dependent on me now and I’ve got a teen off to college in a couple of years.  I plan on doing this or having this completed before I turn 45.

I’m not discussing this article from MadameNoire.com to tell anyone what to do with their life.  I’m sharing an article that kinda hits close to home for me and I’m sure it does for you or for at least someone you know.  There are options and as long as you know that you never have to stay stuck in a dead-end job.  It’s never too late to take care of business!  Find your passion, or just sharpen those skills that allowed you to land your job or maybe get some new skills to get an even BETTER job.

We’re older but we’re not OVER.  We can still wonder,’what do I wanna be when I grow up?’.  I’m still wondering so I know you may be as well.  Check out this great article on MN and see if you like the points they make as well as how to do this if it’s something you really wanna do.  It’s scary…no doubt, but what’s scarier is realzing your education, skills, and/or talents are outdated.
