Product Review – Satin Sakks

Well, I finally decided to do some product reviews.  It was my intention to start earlier than this but I never really got around to it.  Since my creative juices haven’t been flowing this week due to serious stress tapping me out I am doing what needs to be done!

Product reviews are necessary for two reasons.

1. Giving a real testimony on products others may want to try but are too fearful.
2. Expose the masses to new and/or unique products.

I’m starting on first product review on Satin Sakks, “an attractive, comfortable hair wrap made of the same smooth satin found in beautiful satin sheets or luxurious satin pajamas”.  They have a few different colors as well as Sakks for short or long hair.  They boast of a satin adjustable band that fits around your forehead and attaches at the nape with Velcro.  As you can see above they are really pretty and do look a lot better than the average satin bonnets.

I was on Nappturality.com , a few months before Christmas and was reading a thread discussing hair wraps where the Satin Sakk were mentioned.  I was curious and checked it out.  I was immediately sold and ordered two small black ones.  One for me and one for my daughter who absolutely HATES wearing a satin bonnet at night.  BIG MISTAKE.

I was so excited when it got here.  Yea, I had to order them online and  I really hate purchasing hair products online but I felt this was worth it.  I tried it on and immediately noticed that you must be really careful NOT to pull your hair on the Velcro.  That was not a good thing.  I snag my hair on my unshaped nails too often as it is so I truly don’t need any extra help pulling my hair unnecessarily.

If that isn’t bad enough, the damn thing bleeds on everything!  I had washed the Sakks 4 (count it) 4 times and it still bled on my pillowcase.  I couldn’t understand why it wouldn’t stop bleeding but after the 4th time I gave up on them.  Oh, by the way….it didn’t stay on my head the entire night and even my stretched out satin bonnets stay on my head all night.  Won’t be purchasing again nor recommending anyone else purchase one either.

I’m starting a rating system with asterisk (*)

*         Poor rating.  Will not be buying again ever!!
**       Mediocre.  Will not be buying again.
***     Average.  May or may not buy again.
****   Above average.  Will probably buy again.
***** Excellent!  Will buy again and may become a staple product.

Satin Sakks     *

Pulling my hair AND bleeding on my things, AND not staying on my head does not sit well me with me.  Don’t waste your money on this hair wrap.  A stain pillowcase or a satin bonnet will do a much better job.

The minute you mentioned the velcro at the back, I thought to myself, "What if my hair gets caught on it?" Just looking at the product, I would think it's more something to wear outside the house, than to wear to bed at night. I like the look of it. Maybe only the black ones bleed, and I'd suggest hand washing. I have locs and I occasionally like to cover my hair when going outside. I think this is a good look.

Well, I hope you have better luck than I had or maybe they have updated their product since I did this review two years ago. I would think you would like the Loc Soc. I want to try that myself. If you purchase this please let me know how it went. Thanks for sharing.
