Here Comes 2011!!

Flikie Wallpapers

As we draw closer to the end of 2010 I cannot help but remember alllll the wonderful things I was supposed to have done and/or stopped before the year was out.  Just like thousands, even MILLIONS, of others I had a laundry list of things I knew were going to happen.  I just KNEW 2010 had to be financially more sound than 2009 and since I love even numbers, I just knew that the even number of the year was going to somehow aid in me accomplishing what I had set out to do/or stop.

Well, I can't speak for the rest of the world but for me and mine....2010 SUCKED!!  I mean it sucked ROYALLY.  I mean it didn't start out worth a damn and it ended just as poorly.  The Economy shrouded Baby New Year like a cape and gave his little bottom a rash.  Massive unemployment, watered down health care bill, Arizona showing it racist ass once again, the BP tragedy are only a few of the disasters that will forever go down in history as a few o f the highlights of 2010.

So, here I go again swearing that 2011 has GOT to be better than the prior year.  As I roll my eyes in disgust at the thought of claiming this year as my year to lose weight (45 lbs), get our finances in a better place, cut out some of my online shopping (yes, I'm a shopaholic), and be nicer.....

oh hell, I'm just gonna try.  Happy New Year to all and may 2011 give us what we middle and lower class people need.  A damn break.

Winter is here and so is the dryness....

Winter is really here!
Well, the Meterologists were FINALLY correct this time!  The snow is here and it looks like it ain't stopping anytime soon.  As we gaze in awe at the winter wonderland I must stop to think about how this will affect my hair.

This is my daily rountine:

While in shower I run Aubrey Organics Rosemary Honeysuckle thorugh my hair.  After that sits for a few minutes I run Kinky Curly Knot Today in.  I rinse just a little out but leave the shower with DRIPPING WET hair.  (I find that is the most important part of my routine)  I add small amounts of Kinky Curly Curly Custard to small sections of my hair making sure to not manipulate the hair too much.  After that I seal my ends with EVCO.  (Extra Virgin Coconut Oil)
DONE!!

I've been washing and going for the past two years with only dealing with 2nd day hair once or twice a week usually during the weekends.  (Being lazy I guess) I've retained length but I have seen my share of mistakes along the way.  Thank goodness for all the wonderful and insightful as well as extremely informative websites and blogs that have aided  me getting to where I am today.  I truly didn't have a clue when I stopped getting my hair relaxed over 5 years ago.   I'm forever thankful for making the bold step into fully naturalness (I like that word) by taking out the braids and weaves.  Now that I am older and wiser.....what am I gonna do over this current winter?

I've got a wonderful routine and find no need to change it.  I've incorporated Aubrey Organics GPB for a protein boost weekly.  I've noticed a tremendous difference in the softness of my hair by doing that.  I've heard so many BAD things about protein that I had left it all together out of my regimen.  That was a mistake and have learned I must try things for myself and as always....LISTEN TO MY HAIR.

Snow is coming

We really haven't had much snow.  We really haven't had much cold weather at all.  It's been a mild winter but I ain't complaining.  The snow is coming and I find myself worrying about my hair.

For the past two winters I've been wearing a hat only when it got below 20 degrees but I think I may succumb to logic and wear a satin-lined hat.  I've seen several blogs discussing where to purchase one or am I going to be really ghetto and put one of my satin bonnets under my hat?  That sounds so crazy but apparently others have tried and are happy with that option.

I'm pretty covered up during the winter months.  I wear my coat, scarf, gloves as well as the earmuffs and have survived both winters cold free.  I've dealt with dryness but i could also attribute that to my ignorance.  I have only RECENTLY been actually listening to my hair.  I mean REALLY LISTENING.  I can sense when a certain product isn't working or if it's time to use a protein conditioner.  Now that I can hear what my hair is saying...I won't need the hat and the satin lining delimma, right?

NOUN
1.
strands growing on head or body: the mass of fine flexible protein strands that grow from follicles on the skin of a person or animal, especially those on somebody's head
2.
single strand: a fine strand that grows out of the skin of a person or animal
"The rug was covered with dog hairs."
3.
fine growth on plant: a thin flexible growth on a plant resembling a human or animal hair
4.
fabric: fabric made from animal hair
5.
tiny amount: a tiny amount or degree
"won by a hair"

Now, of course it's explained as technical as one can get above but to women....it's much more than 'flexible protein strands'...
Hair is an extension of our personality, our style, our being a woman.  It can make a statement. It can become a shield. It can open the eyes of riducule as easily as it can close the minds of disgust.  It's more than protein strands so having such a strong opinion on wearing it natural for black women is important enough to find hundred if not THOUSANDS of blogs just on it.

Hair is more than a four letter word.
